Why Nuts4Ribs?
The purpose of this event is to educate men about testicular cancer - a disease that accounts for only about one percent of all cancers in men, yet is the number one cancer killer among men in their 20s and 30s. Detected early, it is also the most curable form of cancer.
We believe that prevention is best practice, and the best way to communicate that awareness is to host an event that men and their families can enjoy and participate in every summer. It is estimated there is often a 2-3 month delay in diagnosis for testicular cancer, which could potentially lead to more serious health complications. Make sure you check 'em boys, or you'll risk losin' 'em!
It has often been said that the best way to a man’s heart and soul is through his stomach, which is why Nuts4Ribs is the perfect event to support and enjoy in the dog days of summer.
Nuts4Ribs is the only ribfest in Canada that directly supports testicular cancer awareness. Bringing some of Nova Scotia's most well-known chefs and rib aficionados together, Nuts4Ribs is an annual community party that features lip-smacking ribs, a sponsored beer garden, a children’s play area, a cook-off challenge, rib-eating contest and live musical entertainment. Each year, we will also strive to bring quality speakers with messages of inspiration.
We expect this event to grow well into the future, and more importantly, become an event and destination where men and their friends and families can enjoy eating tasty ribs and celebrate what it means to overcome this disease. It will also be a time to remember those who fought their battles and won the spirits and minds of those they loved.
Last year, Nuts4Ribs made a huge impact and left attendees wanting more. More than 2,000 people attended the event, 700 racks of ribs were sold and more than $25,000 was raised. Ninety-six percent said they would come back to Nuts4Ribs in 2008 - not bad for a first-time event.
That’s why we are asking you and your family to join us on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at DeWolf Park in Bedford. Whether you’re a rib lover or not, come out and take part in an event that will aim to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society - Nova Scotia division and help raise critical awareness towards testicular cancer. There is no cost to attend the event, but donations are appreciated.

Where the money goes:
All funds raised by Nuts4Ribs will go to the Canadian Cancer Society - Nova Scotia division. The Canadian Cancer Society, through unique awareness campaigns such as "Show Your Bum for Colectoral Cancer", has demonstrated a willingness to tackle men's health issues head on.
